The first night of Winter Music Conference rocked. With so much going on, the choices are endless, and even on a tight budget my friends and I hit 4 separate parties last night. We started at Jar Far lounge on 5th and Ocean. If you don’t know it’s there you’d miss it, because this hidden gem’s entrance is through the deli on the ground floor. The ad said “free drinks” which is always a great thing. The bartender was an idiot, slow as hell, and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t vodka, but water, inside that bottle of Grey Goose. The music was decent, but the best part of this lounge is its location.
We then hopped on a cab and headed for the Presidente Hotel on 14th and Collins. We got a few beers and sat outside people watching and taking in the bustle of this great little city. My friends even ran into one of their friends from Connecticut, freaking small world. There was really nothing too special about the music or this venue, but it doesn’t mean we weren’t having fun. We had a couple of rounds, I began getting a little buzz. Time for the next party.
We headed over to the Shelborne Hotel to meet a friend of mine who is a DJ named Nomad. He was working the party at Shine at the hotel and had put my friends and I on the list (thanks babe!). We walked in, got our bracelets, and headed for the bar for round four. We walked into Shine and the music was pumping. Everyone was dancing, and the vibe was incredible. I greeted my old friend and he handed me 6 drink tickets, Yay! To the bar!
“Can I get 3 chilled shots of Patron and 3 Coronas please?”. This time the bartender was much better, fast, and friendly. She said, “$90 please”. Ha! 90 bucks jeez. I handed her the drink tickets and a $20 as a tip. She was happy. I bet she made so much money last night.
These two adorably handsome British guys started talking to me, and by now you must know that I’m boy crazy. Especially British with their charming accents..sign me up! We hit the dance floor, the music was incredible. I thought to myself thank god I wore flats. Around 1AM, our other two friends from CT arrived, and though tired from the flight, they were psyched to finally get there and start partying. By 3AM our group had grown to nine people, and after a couple of hours at Shine, I said bye to Nomad, and we headed out.
Next was O Asian Lounge on Lincoln between Washington and Collins. I hardly remember walking to this joint, with the brit in tow, I was paying attention to his bright blue eyes, and delicious full lips. Great kisser by the way. And we did a LOT of that last night. The nine of us walked into this little gem, and again the music was pumping. Everyone was dancing and having a hell of a night. At some point my friends decided to leave, as they were tired since they actually have jobs and from their flight coming in. I stayed with the Brit and we continue to dance and smooch for the next couple of hours. Seriously, my feet hurt today.
My boy’s friends left for their hotel, and he and I went for a walk in the town, towards my place. We stopped to get a couple of bottles of water, we were so dehydrated. During this walk was the first time I actually asked the brit about himself. Turns out he is an Arsenal fan, and works for the Football Association in London. He wasn’t pleased that I’m a Chelsea fan and asked me how I came to be. I told him that what drew me to this team was the captain, John Terry for his calm yet assertive way to both leading his team, and his efforts as a team player. I didn’t want to leave his yummyness but it was now 6AM and it was time for this girl to get her beauty rest. We agreed that we would meet up today, but I told him if he meets another hot chick, that he should enjoy it.
It’s now 1:30PM, I only got 4 hours of sleep, but believe me I’m ready to hit the SurfComber pool party this afternoon. I’m going to put on my bikini, head for the beach for a little r&r and sunshine, then to the party. To all of you who are experiencing this fantastic weekend, ain’t life grand?!
